Overview:
Anaphylaxis is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction which can happen rapidly when exposed to the possible casue of an allergy. The chemicals released by the body at that state can cause things like shock, brathing difficulties, drop in blood pressure. Anaphylaxis requires an immediate attention & if not treated quickly can cause death.
Signs and Symptoms:
Signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis include a rapid, weak pulse, skin rash, and nausea and vomiting. Common triggers of anaphylaxis include certain foods, some medications, and insect venom.
Anaphylaxis symptoms usually occur within minutes of exposure to an allergen. Skin reactions including hives and itching, flushed or pale skin. Constriction of the airways and a swollen tongue or throat, which can cause wheezing and trouble breathing.
Causes and Organs Affected:
Certain medications, like penicillin; Foods such as peanuts, fish, shellfish, milk and eggs; Insect stings from bees, ants etc.
Organs affected: Skin, Nervous System, Repiratory & Digestive System
Risk Factor:
If a reaction has had happened before - keep precaustion and avoid substances as the relapses are more severe.
Treatment:
Epinephrine (adrenaline); Oxygen to aid breathing; Antihistamines and cortisones.
