Overview:
Arthritis is inflammation of one or more of joints Common areas such as knees, wrists, or a part of the spinal column. The two most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Signs and Symptoms:
Pain, Stiffness, Swelling of joints
Causes and Organs Affected:
Joint damage causes Arthritis. In osteoarthritis, wear-and-tear damage to cartilage can result in bone grinding directly on bone, which causes pain and restricted movement. rheumatoid arthritis, the body's immune system attacks joints and inflames the synovium, causing swelling, redness and pain. The disease can eventually destroy cartilage and bone within the joint
Risk Factor:
Incude; Age: as it progresses with the aging individual. Its more prevalent in women. Obesity is another risk factor as the joints get overstressed. Family history & genetics is important. Joint injury due to accidents / sports cause increase the risk of arthritis.
Treatment:
Arthritis treatment focuses on relieving symptoms and improving joint function. Medical treatments use Analgesics, Corticosteroids, NSAIDs & DMARDs. Surgery may be involved in case of joint replacement or joint fusion.
