Overview:
Trachoma is caused by a bacterium that which spreads through direct contact with the eye, nose or throat secretions of infected people. It's very contagious. Untreated trachoma can lead to blindness.
Signs and Symptoms:
Mild itching / irritation in the eye accompanied by discahrge. May lead to Pain, bluured vision & sensitivity to light.
Causes and Organs Affected:
The cause of trachoma is certain subtypes of Chlamydia trachomatis, a bacterium that can also cause the sexually transmitted disease chlamydia.
Risk Factor:
Leading to Trachoma: Hygiene, poor sanitation, children & women are more susceptible. Flies can be the major carrier.
Treatment:
Treatment with antibiotics alone may be enough to eliminate the infection. Later stages may require surgery. Eye creams are available for external application
